Floral Renaissance Frame

This tutorial was rewritten for PSP10, but can be done in versions 8 and 9.
I have included lots of instructions and screen shots with the hope that anyone can do this
tutorial. I have most of my favorite effects on a tool bar but have included the path to each
effect so it will be easy to find them if you are new to PSP. If you are more advanced, feel
free to move ahead at your own pace ! Sorry, I do not offer help with Version 7 any longer.

~ You will need ~

Paint Shop Pro 10, a 30 day trial can be downloaded here.

DBL Corners font and Floral Renaissance image zip file here.
Open and minimize the DBL Corners fonts on your desktop.
Open "FloralRenaissance Anita Olsen.jpg" in Paint Shop.


Version 10 does not have the Gold Sculpture preset. You will need the pattern and the preset in this zip
Put the "goldpreset.bmp" file in your My PSP Files/Patterns folder and the "Preset_Sculpture_Gold_gh.PspScript" in your My PSP Files/Presets folder. Restart PSP and the preset should show up in your Sculpture effects.


You can drag this pointer as you go to keep track of your place in the tutorial.

The image "Floral Renaissance" was painted by Anita.

Let's get started! =)

1. Open your image in Paint Shop and go to Window/Duplicate, do this twice.
Minimize your copy, we will be using it later. You may close out the original image.


2. Go to Image/Add Borders. Change the color to white and add a 4 pixel symmetric border.



3. Using your Magic Wand with these settings .....



Select your white border.

4. Go to Effects/Texture Effects/Sculpture and choose Gold_gh from the drop down menu. We will use this same sculpture setting throughout the tutorial.

5. Go to Selections/Invert, then go to Effects/3D Effects/Cutout and apply this Cutout ...
Shadow color Black.
Vertical= 0 Opacity= 100
Horizontal= 0 Blur= 46

Go to Selections/Select None.

6. Go to Image/ Add Borders and add a 10 pixel Symmetric white border.

Using your Magic Wand , select your border.
In your Materials Palette, change "Color" to "Pattern"



and locate your Floral Renaissance image you have minimized.
Use these settings ...




7. Flood fill the border with this pattern.

8. Go to Effects/Reflection Effects/Kaleidoscope and type in 14 for "Number of Petals" and all other settings are 0.
Check "Reflect". Go to Selections/Select None.

9. Go to Image, Add Borders and add a 4 pixel white border again. Use your Magic Wand to select the border.
Go to Effects/Texture Effects/Sculpture and use your Gold_gh preset again.
Go to Selections/Select None.

10. Go to Image/Add Borders and add a 15 pixel black border.

11. Go to Image/Add Borders and add a 4 pixel white border, select this with your Magic Wand .
Go to Effects/Texture Effects/Sculpture/Gold_gh and apply this to your border.
Go to Selections/Select None.

12. Go to Image, Add Borders and add a 10 pixel white border. Select the border with your Magic Wand .

Flood fill your border with your pattern.
Go to Effects/Reflection Effects/Kaleidoscope, same settings as before.
Go to Selections/Select None.

13. Go to Image/Add Borders and add a 4 pixel white border. Select it with your Magic Wand. Go to Effects/Texture Effects/Sculpture and apply your Gold_gh preset. Go to Selections/Select None. That's the last of the borders!

Now we are going to add the corners.

14. Click on your Text Tool and use these settings....


In your Materials palette, turn off your Foreground color and change your background color to White.
Now click on your image. When the Text Entry box opens type a capitol M. Click Apply.

15. Using the Deform Box ,

move your corner over to the top left corner of the frame.

In your Layer palette, right click on Vector 1 and choose "Convert to Raster Layer".

Go to Effects/Texture Effects/Sculpture/Gold_gh, same settings as before and apply this to your corner.

16. Go to Effects/3D Effects/Drop Shadow and use the settings below.
Shadow color/ Black
Vertical= 1 Opacity= 100
Horizontal= 1 Blur= 2

17. Go to Layers/Duplicate.

Go to Image/ Mirror.

In your Layer palette, right click on "Copy of Raster 1" and click on Merge/Merge Down..

Go to Layers/Duplicate.

Go to Image/Flip.

Go to Layers/Merge/Merge Visible, add your signature and you are done!
