"Cupid Is Stupid" Tag

This tutorial was written for PSP10, but can be done in versions 8 and 9.

This tutorial is written only as a tool, feel free to use any tube you like, change the fonts and, of course, the text, too.

~ You will need ~

Tube of your choice.
The tube I am using is the artwork of Joel Adams and was purchased from CILM.
Paint Shop Pro 10, a 30 day trial can be downloaded here
The zip with the text, 2 masks, font and brush here.
Open "cupidtext_gh.psp" and two masks, "cupidmask_gh.jpg" and "gh_photoframestextured.jpg", in PSP.

Open the font, double click to open it and minimize it to your desktop.
Extract the brush file, "gh_flower_16_daisyoutline.PspBrush" to a new folder on your desktop and from PSP go to File/Import/Custom Brush.

Let's get started ...
Open a new canvas 600 x 550 with a white background.
Layers/New Raster Layer.
In your Materials Palette make your foreground color #f37ba9 and your background color #80a939
Flood Fill your canvas with the foreground color, #f37ba9.
Layers/New Mask Layer/From Image.
Look in the drop down menu for "gh_photoframestextured.jpg" and use these settings ....



In your Layer Palette right click on Group - Raster 1 and go to Merge/Merge Group. Lower the opacity to 40.




Layers/New Raster Layer.
Flood Fill your canvas with the foreground color again.
Layers/New Mask Layer/From Image.
Look in the drop down menu for "cupidmask_gh.jpg" and use these settings ....



In your Layer Palette right click on Group - Raster 1 and go to Merge/Merge Group.

In your Layer Palette click on the Background layer
Layers/New Raster Layer.
Click on your Paint Brush and look in the brush preview window for "gh_flower_16_daisyoutline".



Change the size to 195 and using your background color, apply the brush around the heart like below ...



Change the brush size to 100 and apply it again like below ...


Layers/Duplicate. In your Layer Palette right click on Copy of Raster 1 and go to Merge/Merge down.

In your Layer palette click on Group - Raster 1.
Using your Magic Wand with these settings ...



Click on your image outside the heart.

Selections/Modify/Expand/9 Pixels. Selections/ Invert. Now click on Raster 1, that's the layer with
the daisy brushes on it and go to Edit/Cut. Selections/Select None. Here's what you should have now ...



In your layer palette click on the top layer.
Open the tube you are going to use. Edit/Copy. Go back to your image. Edit/Paste as a New Layer.
Position the tube to the right of the heart.
Effects/3D Effects/Drop Shadow and apply these settings ...
Vertical and Horizontal 2, Opacity 50, Blur 5 and Color Black.
Repeat the Drop Shadow but change the Vertical and Horizontal to -2.
You may need to adjust your drop shadow depending on the tube you are using and the colors.

Open the tube "cupidtext_gh". Edit/Copy. Go back to your image. Edit/Paste as a New Layer.
Position the tube in the center of the heart.
Effects/3D Effects/Drop Shadow and apply these settings ...
Vertical and Horizontal 2, Opacity 30, Blur 5 and Color Black.
If you are using a different tube you'll have to do your own text to match your tube or you can colorize the
text tube provided. To colorize, pick a color to compliment your tube and in the Materials Palette write down the Hue and
Saturation values for that color. Then g
o to Adjust Hue and Saturation and put in those values.



Click on your Text Tool and use these settings ....



Position your text at the bottom of the heart. R
ight click on your text layer and convert to a raster layer.
Go to Selections/Select All, Selections/Float, Selections/Modify/Contract/ 1 pixel.
Go to Effects/3D Effects/Inner Bevel and apply these settings ...



Selections/Select None. Go to Effects/3D Effects/Drop Shadow and apply these settings ...
Vertical and Horizontal 2, Opacity 45, Blur 5 and Color Black.

Add any appropriate copyright information, your watermark and your tag is finished.
Save a copy of your file in psp format with the layers intact then save as a jpg.
